The easiest, fastest holiday party impromptu speech

(a template)

Here’s all you need to care about for a last-minute speech or toast:

1. Keep it simple.

2. Rule of three.

3. It's about the audience.

STEP 1.

Just jot down 3 things you like or immediately comes to mind about this team (your audience).

1. _________________

2. _________________

3. _________________

Tip: DON'T overthink this. Move fast. Keep the thinking under 2 minutes. Get classic and use a napkin.

STEP 2.

Open it up with personal thanks, and make it very short.  Then tell them the three things without details.

You can use exactly these words if you want:

"Thank you everyone for being here. I am just so humbled.

I know we are here to celebrate the holidays, but really, we are here to celebrate YOU.

There's three things that make me want to celebrate all of you. [1], [2], & [3]."

STEP 3.

Ad-lib 2-4 sentences for each of the 3 points..

First, [1], [talk off the top of your head for 2-4 sentences]

Second [2], [talk off the top of your head for 2-4 sentences]

And finally, [3], [talk off the top of your head for 2-4 sentences]

Tip: Since you didn’t overthink the 3, your quick details about each won’t need to be memorized .

STEP 4.

Repeat the 3 and wrap it up.

“And there's so much more. I could talk all night, but let's celebrate.

It's [1], [2], & [3].

And I can't possibly thank you all enough. [pause] CHEERS.

TIP: the longer you pause before your say your final word (cheers), the louder your applause will be.

And that’s it. Seriously.

How this works 100% of the time:

1. Simple is best.

2. Rule of three. And repeat ‘em 3 times.

3. It's about them. Not you or the business.

TIP: No one on earth has ever gone to a holiday party for a TED Talk. Not even TED!
